Post-Therapy Self-Care: Essential Tips and Activities for Healing and Rejuvenation

Therapy sessions are hard work and one can feel drained after a session. It is essential to take care of ourselves after therapy. Post-therapy self-care is essential, allowing your mind and body the space to process, heal, and rejuvenate. Here are some recommended activities:

  1. Reflect: Write down how you feel and your thoughts after the session. You can also talk to a friend or family member whom you feel safe with.

  2. Grounding Exercises: Take a few big breaths to help calm the nervous system. You can take a few minutes after therapy to breathe or a grounding technique such as 5-4-3-2-1 will help you stay present.

  3. Physical Activities: Being outside and moving your body can be calming. Stretch your body. You can also take time to rest by taking a nap or going to sleep early.

  4. Warm Bath: A warm bath or shower can help you relax and feel refreshed. It’s also a way to connect with your body.

  5. Take a break: Spend some time to be in silence. Disconnect from screen time.

  6. Physical Needs: Drink water and/or have some food.

  7. Do something Creative: Put on your favorite songs and dance it out. You can also get into expressing yourself by drawing or crafting. You can read your favorite book or watch your favorite tv show.

After therapy, it's all about what makes you feel calm and safe. Find what works best for you and make sure you are taking care of yourself. Self-care is important every day!
